There is an issue with Airprint on iOS 11 with some HP printers (and also in MacOS Sierra 10.12 & MacOS High Sierra 10.13). A list of the affected printers is provided below.

The result is that Aiprint jobs may not print, and a "contacting printer" message may appear for an excessive amount of time.

HP is working on FW updates for affected printers. Several printers have updates available as indicated in the list below. Others will follow.  Apple is also working on an OS update to address this issue. Either a printer FW update, or the Apple OS update, will resolve the issue -  both are not required.

The support page below contains more info on this issue, including potential work-arounds until a printer FW update or Apple OS update is available:

Below is the list of affected printers. FW updates are not yet available for all affected printers. Printers that are bolded in blue text currently should have FW updates available that address this issue.

See the support page below for help on checking for a firmware update on your printer. Note: For printers that provide a control panel menu, use that option to check for an update for your printer as it may be available from that approach faster than via download from a drivers and download page on HP.com.
