New 810-170st.  Added a Samsung 840EVO SSD.

Intend for SSD to be boot drive.

Ran Samsung Magician, Ran Data Migration software. All successful.

Cannot access bios to change boot drive order.

Also need to change to ACHI mode to get full performance of SSD.

When I click to enter advanced settings the icon registers the click... nothing happens.

I understand I have to go through UEFI

VERY Frustrating.

Any help?

Hey Dean.  Thanks for the note.  Not sure I can accurately describe the entire nightmare but I'll try.

BIOS would freeze repeatedly in either dos or vertical menu mode.  I only had 2 minutes to make a change.

Also the setting from the factory was Raid!  With only one drive.  Stunning.

Spent two hours on the phone with tech support in the east. Spent 1/2 hour first call then had massive language issues. Then bad attitudes and after finally getting a supervisor on the phone, he yelled at me because I added an SSD as if I had nerve making the system what I wanted it to be.  VERY unprofessional.

Upshot:  Finally got BIOS to work by unplugging everything including power, USB mouse/keyboard and network.  Held power button down for 10 secs.  It reset the BIOS.

Still would not see the new SSD as boot drive though.

So after being yelled at by the supervisor at tech support, I finally did what I should have done 2.5 hours earlier.

I made discs.  Pulled the battery and wiped BIOS.  Unplugged the HDD, installed the SSD, and factory reinstalled the entire system on the SSD.  Pulled the HDD, formatted it on my HDD duplicator and then reinstalled.

End result?...  Runs like a raped ape now.

Just be aware when you reset BIOS like the that, on startup the machine fan runs at high speed for 1-2 minutes.  Sounds like one of my quad processor 2900 poweredge servers!  Then it shuts itself down, reboots at a more normal fan speed and all went well.  I mention this so someone doesn't think the machine is about to take off like a Lear jet!

Thanks for the help and advice.

Airbridge, welcome to the forum.

I just installed a Samsung 840 EVO - 500GB SSD in my 810-135qe.  I didn't have to touch the BIOS.  It booted the first time.  Here is how I did the install:

Checked to assure the BIOS was set to AHCI before I gegan the install, which it was set from the factory.  This should be done prior to the install or it will cause problems.

1) Installed the SSD in a spare drive bay; leaving the original HDD connected as it was when I bought it.

2) Connected the SSD to a different SATA connector on the motherboard.

3) Installed the Samsung Migration software on the HDD and ran it.

4) When the HDD had been cloned to the SSD, I disconnected the HDD and booted.  The SSD booted the first time with no changes to the BIOS.

I hope this will help you.  As I stated, the BIOS should have been set to AHCI before the install began.  I believe that your BIOS is set this way.

If your BIOS is like mine, the Boot Order can be changed in the tab titled "Storage".

Fellas,

I'm about the make the plung myself today... Headed to a Micro Center for parts. I'm going to mount a Sammie 850 Pro in front bay caddie, use Sammsung's software t clone the HHD, reoder the BIOS boot, remove the stock HHD, and see how she's doinging on reboot (O-G's way).

Assuming that goes well, I'm removing the Condusiv software, reformating the stock HHD, and then reintralling it in a third SATA slot.

If that doesn't work well, BIOS is getting the Men In Black mind earaser, and I'll start her back up from there.

Wish me luck.
